How They Work
One of the most popular and the most widely used of the Gems liquid level sensor models is a float sensor. This uses a float on a stationary stem that is mounted in a tank or compartment. The float is equipped with powerful permanent magnets that continually generate a field around the float.
The stem itself has a sealed reed switch that is also magnetic. This is hermetically sealed to prevent any liquid from getting to the reed switch. As the float moves up and down the stem based on the level of the liquid, the changing location of the magnetic field causes the reed switch to be actuated, generating a reading of the fluid level.
These systems can be mounted horizontally and vertically. Vertically mounted systems have to have a special design, but they operate under the same principles.
Various Gems liquid level sensor designs are available for specific types of applications and uses. For example, they manufacture a single-point level switch that is the perfect option for shallow or small tanks.
As with their larger float switches or sensors, they use a reed switch design. These options are also very low cost, highly reliable and come in a wide variety of materials for specific types of applications.
